Ski groups back on the slopes this Easter!
After two years without Easter skiing due to Covid lockdowns and restrictions, it was a joy to be back on the slopes in Austria with our school groups once again.
Ashley Gowing, Managing Director of Absolute Travel and Tours, who travelled to the Ski Amade region to meet with suppliers and see the groups in person said:
“It was fabulous to be in resort once more. The continued improvement in infrastructure here is remarkable. The new Panorama-Link gondola now connects even more of the domain than before and the heated seats on many of the chair lifts are wonderful. With great accommodation, excellent apres-ski options, and all at superb value for money, it’s no surprise that this continues to be our favourite school ski trip destination.”
The groups were based in Altenmarkt at the fabulous Ennstalerhof hotel. After a stunning extension, schools can enjoy upgraded bedrooms, private dining space, swimming pool, disco, games rooms, cinema room and a superb new indoor climbing wall.
Our ski manager, Martyn describes this as his “home from home” and it’s easy to see why he keeps coming back with more and more schools each year. It’s just 5 minutes on the coach to Flachau where the equipment shop is based at the foot of the slopes and where skis can be stored overnight. The Dampfkessel is the perfect place to enjoy a hot lunch and a drink at the end of the day as the teachers will happily confirm. With hundreds of kilometres of marked pistes to explore, you can ski down to Wagrain, across to Flachauwinkel or visit Zauchensee as well. External apres-ski options include the Therme Amade water park, the Lucky Flitzer ride or Austrian bowling if you prefer.
One Group Leader told us that the life lessons learned by her pupils on the trip were simply invaluable. The experience that the girls had gained away from their comfort zone in a new environment outside of the classroom was profoundly enriching and rewarding. We agree! That’s what children have been missing out on for far too long!
