Why travelling off peak for your ski trip is best!

There will be unprecedented demand for availability during the February half-term holiday week in 2026. Not only do nearly all British schools have the same week off, but it clashes with the European festival week on the Continent too. That means that our groups will be competing for space in hotels, in ski schools and on the slopes with Belgians, Germans and all the other tourists too! Don't worry, we have secured the beds we need for our most popular destinations, but in reality it's going to be too busy to accommodate everyone. That means booking as early as possible (now) to secure a slot in a hotel or resort of your choice. If you are considering repeating a trip you are making this year, then we'll try to offer you a first refusal to return, but regret it won't always be possible. If it is, you'll have to act fast to pay a deposit to block the beds.

Better still, consider travelling on different dates if you can! December (pre-Christmas) and the Easter holidays both represent great opportuntiites. Term time travel means less stress, less traffic, less queuing and less money too. Groups can save £250 per person by travelling in term time over peak week dates. That means you can pay for cover staff if you need to and still enjoy huge savings for the school and parents alike.

Ashley Gowing, Managing Director of Absolute Travel and Tours, who travelled to the Ski Amade region again over the summer to meet with existing suppliers and prospective new partners, said:

“The continued improvement in ski infrastructure here is remarkable. With great accommodation, fabulous lifts connecting an awesome domain, excellent apres-ski options, and all at superb value for money, it’s no surprise that this continues to be our favourite school ski trip destination. What's more, a number of the hotels, ski school and equipment suppliers that we work with in Salzburgerland are offering us some fabulous discounts for off-peak travel. You're going to be getting a better product at better value for money if you travel in term time if you can. That must be food for thought!!

Back out of semi-retirement, our ski manager, Martyn describes the area as his “home from home” and it’s easy to see why he rates it so highly. Ed has joined us full-time too. A BASI level 3 instructor himself, he has travelled to the Ski Amade in Austria for more than 20 years and can't wait to meet as many of you as possible during the Winter. It promises to be a great season ahead.

It makes sense to speak to us and talk through all of the options before coming to a decsion on your 2026 ski trip plans. With so much experience, we are confident we can help you find the perfect trip for you.

One Group Leader told us that the life lessons learned by her pupils on the trip were simply invaluable. The experience that the girls had gained away from their comfort zone in a new environment outside of the classroom was profoundly enriching and rewarding. We agree! That’s what children gain. Life experience outside of the classroom! It's another reason why more and more schools are seeing the benefits to their pupils of travelling in term time. In our opinion, a ski trip isn't just a holiday. It's an educational life experience, that everyone should have the oportunity to enjoy.
