Theatre of Epidaurus

Built in the 4th century BC a trip to Epidaurus will give your group a chance to see the best example of a Greek theatre (not transformed by the Romans) in existence, and one renowned for its almost perfect acoustics for up to 15,000 spectators. The Sanctuary of Asklepios, a famous healing centre of the ancient world, is also worth exploring.

Mycenae

Explore the legendary Lion Gate, royal tombs, and cyclopean walls, while learning about Agamemnon and Homeric myths. This UNESCO World Heritage site brings early Greek history vividly to life for students.

Theatre of Dionysus

The first and largest theatre ever built in Athens. The theatre, which was built in honour of the god Dionysus, is regarded as the birthplace of Greek Drama as it was the venue for most of the first written Greek plays.

Odeon of Herodes Atticus

This stunning open-air theatre at the foot of the Acropolis hosts concerts and festivals today, combining historic atmosphere with impressive acoustics and a wonderful architectural setting for visitors.

Mask Workshop

Learn about the construction of an ancient tragedy mask and its importance to the ancient Greek Drama. As well as being a functional device, the mask was strongly connected to the texts and the nature of ancient theatre.

Visit the Museum of Greek Instruments, which houses approximately 1200 examples of instruments dating from the 18th century to the present day.

Sample Itinerary

Day 1

Morning departure from UK. Afternoon arrival in Athens. Transfer to your accommodation and check in. A bit of free time for orientation before evening meal. Overnight in Athens.

Day 2

Half day tour of Athens including a visit of the Acropolis, Dionysus Theatre, and the Odeon of Herodus Atticus. Afternoon dance workshop. Evening meal.

Day 3

Full day tour of Mycenae and Epidurus. Evening meal.

Day 4

Mask workshop - the mask in acient Greek drama. Modern tragedy performance (in English) including return transfers. Evening meal at your hotel.

Day 5

Some free time for shopping before afternoon transfer back to the airport for flight home.

Where to Stay

Achillion Hotel. A traditional family-run 3 star hotel, ideally located in the city centre and close to Omonia metro station. Students are accommodated in multi bedded rooms and staff in singles and twins, all ensuite. Hotel has a restaurant where half board can be taken.
